Am I on the right list?
Ask the authority or property to name the exact program and waiting list. An inquiry, a website account or a submitted form alone does not tell you that you are on the correct list.
- Name the route. Public housing, tenant-based Housing Choice Vouchers, project-based vouchers and property applications can use separate lists.
- Check the scope. Ask which property, unit size, location and household the application covers. If one list is closed, ask about the other routes separately.
- Ask for receipt and status. Ask whether your application is complete and actually on that list. Write down the reference and official status-check route. No One Left Outside cannot check it for you.
- Keep a follow-up plan. Ask when and how to update your contact details, what notices to expect and whether you must respond by a deadline.
- Check other lists independently. HUD advises that you may need to apply to multiple PHA voucher lists. Ask each authority about its own rules and geography.
